Early 2018, the County Government of Mombasa engaged the University of Nairobi, School of Business to carry out an assessment of the Social Economic Impact on the operationalization of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) on the Port City of Mombasa.  The exercise was undertaken as part of emerging paradigm in which academia and practitioners must come together to inform policy directions.
It was on this background that the level of collaboration was established, acknowledging that research plays a key role in decision making for any forward thinking institution.
The research was carried out by the UoN School of Business Consultancy Unit through the UoN Consultancy, Research and Training Centre, Mombasa.

The Project Team comprised both internal and external consultants and was lead by Prof. James Njihia Dean School of Business and Dr. Kennedy Ogollah assisted by Dr. Kingsford Rucha.
