The University of Nairobi, Mombasa Campus successfully held its 2nd open day from 1st to 8th April 2017 at Uniplaza Building, Aga Khan Walk, off Moi Avenue. During the open day the Campus showcased its programmes, learning and research opportunities. The theme for this year’s open day was Nurturing Visionary Leaders through Quality Education. The occasion was graced by the Mvita Mp Hon Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir. In his remarks Hon Abdulswamad reiterated the importance of embracing the cultural and religious diversities among the student community towards peace and co-existence.
Among the highlights of the open day were speeches by the Principal CHSS, Prof. Enos Njeru, Director CESSP, Prof. Julius Ogeng’o, Executive Secretary , Education & Children, County Government of Mombasa, Hon Lewa Tendai, Campus Director, Dr, Sarah Kinyanjui, Campus Coordinators, among others.

The University of Nairobi, Mombasa Campus on 10th March, 2017 hosted public participation forum themed, ‘Mombasa County Vision 2035 & Master Plan’. The master plan is aimed at positioning the Mombasa County as a modern regional commercial hub of excellence that promotes diversity, natural environment and heritage. The forum was hosted by Hon. Anthony Njaramba, executive Secretary Land, Planning & Housing, Mombasa County.

When I grow up, I want to be…’ this is the cliché phrase that recursively finds its way into every High School Students conversation at one point or another in life. On 28th February 2017 a group of students from Memon High School and Kwale Girls High School paid a visit to University of Nairobi, Mombasa Campus for career and mentorship forum. They were given a brief talk about Mombasa Campus by Campus Director Dr. Sarah Kinyanjui.  The students were given a full tour to the various campus facilities (Library, ICT, UNES Bookstore, SOL Mourt Court ) available with career/mentorship talk presentations by the campus coordinators. This was an important role of the Mombasa campus in triggering interest of various courses while they are still in high school. Students need exposure to institutions of higher learning and the various courses available later on in life, as well as a glimpse of the requirements to joining those courses.

The University of Nairobi, Mombasa Campus Staff underwent training on Staff Performance Appraisal (USPAS) system. The training was held on Monday, February 27, 2017 at the Campus Undergraduate computer Lab. This was facilitated by ICT team from School of Business (SOB). The Staff Performance Appraisal system is a critical component of the overall human resource management function of organizations.  It is predicated upon the principle of work planning, setting of agreed performance targets, feedback and reporting.  It is linked to other human resource management systems and processes including recruitment, placement, staff development, career progression, incentives and sanctions.
